You may remember that recently a very special lady was introduced to the Heartfelt Homes family.
Aileen Rowe has battled cancer since 2013 and last month she faced major life-changing surgery that would hopefully rid her of the unforgiving illness for good.
Aileen lives on the Gold Coast and, with the lengthy operation she needed only available in Sydney, she was faced with at least a four-week stay in The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital away from her friends, family, and Gold Coast home.
You can read Aileen’s full story here.
Since her surgery last month, we’re absolutely thrilled to let you all know that Aileen has come through the operation well and is getting stronger and recovering a little more each day.
Unfortunately, with jobs to hold down and finances to manage – as would be the case for many families across Australia – Aileen’s nearest and dearest couldn’t just ‘up sticks’ to be by her bedside throughout her lengthy stay in Sydney, as much as they would have done everything in their power to do so.
With thanks to generous donations made to Heartfelt Homes, post-surgery, we’re over the moon to let you know that we’ve so far provided a total of 10 nights’ accommodation for Aileen’s children to visit her in Sydney.
Across various hotels and motels in The RPA area including Quality Suites, Camperdown, Quality Apartments, Camperdown and Ryals Serviced Apartments, Camperdown, we have worked alongside the properties to make sure Aileen’s family are safe, comfortable, but most importantly…close.
This was only made possible by everyone who has generously donated to Heartfelt Homes and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
But while our gratitude for every single dollar we’ve received is beyond, we can’t stop there.
At this time, we don’t know how much longer Aileen will be in the hospital for and if and when her family might need to use Heartfelt Homes again. But what we do know is that every day, hundreds of patients across Australia are admitted to hospital far away from their home, and their families find themselves looking for accommodation just so they can be close by.
Specialised treatment not available in the local hospital, recurring appointments for ongoing illnesses, or tourists struck down with illness or injury while on holiday…it doesn’t matter how close you live to a hospital, there’s a chance that you or your family will one day have to pay for accommodation to be near a loved one receiving treatment away from home.
Heartfelt Homes exists for families like those, and for families like Aileens.
It exists so that regardless of their illness, financial situation or geographical location, families facing medical crisis far away from home can stay together at a time they need each other the most.
We want to say YES to every single family, every single time but as a not-for-profit organisation, this isn’t currently possible.
Sometimes, we still have to say no to families who desperately need our support, even though we know this means they face separation from their family during medical trial. Even though we know that people may face waking up from surgery without loved ones by their side. And even though we know that one day we might need to use Heartfelt Homes ourselves.
Please, will you consider making a donation to Heartfelt Homes today so we can guarantee that Aileen’s children all have somewhere safe and local to stay while they visit her during the remainder of her treatment? Could you please help us today so that we can continue to help all families across Australia stay together at a time they need each other the most?
Aileen says “THANK YOU“ to everyone who has donated to Heartfelt Homes and made it that little bit easier for her children to visit her, and we do too.
